1. Unbalanced Load
If all the clothes bunch on one side — common with a single heavy towel or bedding — the machine detects imbalance and refuses to spin at full speed to protect itself. Redistribute the load and try a spin cycle again. Samsung shows UB/UE and LG shows UE for this.
2. Water Not Draining
A machine will not spin while water remains in the drum. If there is water left, the drain filter or pump may be blocked. See our guide on washing machine not draining.
3. Door Lock Problem
The door must lock before spinning. A faulty door lock or interlock will stop the spin cycle and may show a door error code.
4. Worn Drive Belt
Belt-driven machines use a rubber belt between the motor and drum. When it stretches, slips or breaks, the drum won't turn even though the motor runs.
5. Motor or Carbon Brushes
Worn carbon brushes, a faulty motor or motor control board stop the drum from turning at speed. Direct-drive machines (such as many LG models) may show a motor error like LE.
6. Worn Shock Absorbers
Failing shock absorbers or suspension springs cause heavy shaking, and the machine may limit spin speed to prevent damage.
7. Control Board or Sensor Faults
The speed sensor (tachometer / hall sensor) and control board manage the spin cycle. A fault here can stop spinning completely.
What You Can Do
- Re-balance the load and run a spin-only cycle.
- Make sure the machine is level on the floor.
- Check the pump filter for blockages.
- Avoid overloading — follow the drum capacity on the door.
