Quick Checks Before Anything Else
- Make sure the temperature setting hasn't been changed accidentally.
- Check the door closes fully and the seal isn't torn or loose.
- Leave space around the fridge — at least a few centimetres at the back and sides — so heat can escape.
- Don't overload the fridge; blocked air vents stop cold air circulating.
- Make sure the fridge isn't next to an oven or in direct sunlight.
Freezer Cold but Fridge Warm
This is very common on frost-free (No Frost) fridges. Cold air is made in the freezer and blown into the fridge by a fan. If the evaporator coil is covered in ice (a defrost fault) or the fan has stopped, the fridge section warms up while the freezer stays cold.
- Failed defrost heater, sensor or timer
- Evaporator fan motor not running
- Air damper stuck closed

When the whole appliance stops cooling, the sealed system is often involved:
- Compressor not starting (relay, overload or inverter board fault)
- Refrigerant gas leak
- Condenser fan failure or very dirty condenser coils
- Faulty thermostat or temperature sensor

- Keep the doors closed as much as possible.
